Day
Meeting point at the Parador de los Reyes Católicos in Santiago de Compostela at 12.00h. After the reception, we will make a visit to the historic center of this city, a goal of pilgrims for a thousand years, which treasures countless artistic jewels headed by its splendid cathedral. After lunch our luxury bus will take us to Ferrol, where El Transcantábrico awaits. Upon arrival, the crew will offer us a welcome toast, as the train travels to Viveiro. Tour through this beautiful old town, where we will dine and spend the night on board.
We will start the morning, as every day, enjoying our delicious a la carte breakfast and buffet. The Transcantábrico will bring us closer to Ribadeo, a historic Galician villa bordering the Principality of Asturias. From here we will travel by bus to the beach of Las Catedrales, one of the most spectacular in the world. Panoramic tour of Ribadeo and food. With the train we enter Asturian lands. Arrival and visit to Luarca, the Villa Blanca of the Costa Verde, to return to the train and head to Candás, where we will have dinner and stay overnight.
We start the day by going to Avilés, a millennial village that has preserved a valuable old town. Then we will take our way to Gijón, a city as open to the Cantabrian Sea as full of cultural events. Lunch. Afterwards, we will travel to the capital of the Principality of Asturias, Oviedo, exponent of the Asturian pre-Romanesque with jewels such as San Julián de los Prados. Visit and free time before returning to the train. Dinner on board during the trip to Arriondas, where we will stay overnight.
With our bus we will climb up to the heart of the Principality of Asturias, to reach the magnificent Picos de Europa National Park. We will visit Lake Enol and then head for the Sanctuary of Covadonga, a sacred place full of tradition and legend. Then Cangas de Onís. Luch. After lunch, emulating with our train the river sports event of the International Descent of the Sella river, we will arrive in Llanes, wonderful fishing village of the Asturian East. Visit and free time. Dinner and night in Llanes.
During breakfast we will enter the lands of Cantabria with the train. From Unquera we will go by bus to Potes, crossing the impressive Gorge of La Hermida. Visit of this charming Cantabrian village, after which we can enjoy a thermal circuit in the Balneario de la Hermida. After lunch, we will visit El Capricho, in Comillas, great and colorful 19th century palace by Antonio Gaudí. Dinner and night in Cabezón de la Sal.
Our first visit will be to the town of Santillana del Mar, with its superbly preserved medieval old town, and to the Neo-cave of Altamira, museum and reliable reproduction of the greatest exponent of the rock art of the Upper Paleolithic. After lunch, we will head by train to Santander, the elegant capital of Cantabria, where we will take a guided tour and have free time. After dinner, those who wish can visit El Gran Casino de Santander with admission included. Overnight in Santander.
El Transcantábrico heads for Bilbao, a city full of dynamism that has managed to reinvent itself after the decline of its traditional heavy industry. The visit to the city includes the entrance to the famous Guggenheim Museum, symbol of this new Bilbao. After lunch, we will enjoy free time before taking the train. Dinner and night in Carranza.
Enjoying our last breakfast on board, we will return to Bilbao, where the bus from El Transcantábrico awaits us to get closer to San Sebastian. Visit this city of elegant beauty and host of important cultural events. End of trip around 13:00h in San Sebastian.
